Ellerbroek Postcard from the Anthropocene

In the age of social media and convenience, human connectivity to each other and the outdoors is diminishing. But what if social media devices could influence people to spend time off the screen while being outside? Introducing the first ever solar-powered mobile phone, this cell phone charges when placed in sunlight. The transparent solar panel screen rewards users who set their phone down while being outside by charging the device when not in use. Not only does this encourage users to spend time outside, possibly engaging in physical activity and connecting to nature, but also saves electricity of the daily (or overnight) cell phone charge. Additionally, spending time outdoors could encourage the public to care about the outdoor space they recreate in, increasing the public demand for sustainable, naturalistic spaces in urban areas while benefiting sustainable practices for the planet, all from the incentive of a solar-powered device.
